@jonny It was necessary to earn enough for food, shelter & clothing.

Collaborators angrily sending emails that they need results for a grant proposal or for a manuscript helps.
But the "oh, shiny new research idea" or shaving the yak of some annoying bit of my workflow are really good distractions from actually finishing something, be it manuscript or analysis.
