I read a sci-fi book a while ago where they described a democracy where people would vote regularly (weekly/monthly), for every single issues. It was rather refreshing

Later I realized it wouldn’t work in real capitalist world because people with the most capital spend ridiculous amounts of money just so they could change the pov of masses to fit their agenda.

So anyway, lobbying should be illegal

If you’re interested in the book, it’s a trilogy called ‘The Themis Files’ by Sylvain Neuval. I wouldn’t say it was my favorite but it was rather interesting and I liked it a lot #books #scifibooks

@farah having to sell the masses on your POV is still more work than buying a handful of senators

@farah @waitworry I think it would be OK, as long as you had transparency. If you see a billionaire investing $300 mil in a cause, you know it is not in your best interest.

That said, I am increasingly convinced that sortition (lottery) is the way to go:
1. You do not want to elect people that want the job.The best people to give power are the people that hate it.
2. Campaign contributions are a thing of the past.
3. You should get a true representative sampling of the people.
4. No need for term limits.

@rrb @farah @waitworry the thing about sortition is that's still not a system that respects consent
I don't want to be in a society where I could at any point be forced into a government job. I want to be in a society where consent is treated as a vital human right. Democracy, sociocracy, you name it, as long as consent is key
