Fascinating, and probably not such a rare edge case.

When the inert concept first landed along with its HTML attribute, one thing immediately struck me - and has kept me from using it in some cases: there’s no way to mark certain parts of the DOM as exempt from being inert. Unlike CSS properties such as pointer-events or visibility, it offers no mechanism for selective override. That kind of feature could solve a lot of problems where inert ends up being a bit too heavy-handed.
