A male Australasian Darter sunning himself on the walk bridge across the northern part of the lake at work yesterday morning.
He was not at all worried about the passing foot traffic.
Full shot of the Darter perched on a stainless steel railing. It is mostly dark brown, but with a patch of rufous on the neck, white stripe behind the yellow beak, and patterned wings (lighter and darker feathers on the fore edge, dark trailing “flight” feathers. The tail is light brown tending to grey with a lighter ladder patten up the middle.
Portrait of the Darter showing mostly neck, shoulders and head. He is a dark brown colour with a yellow pointy beak, white stripe from the beak under the eye. He has a rufous patch on the front of his neck where it curves, and the part of the wing that is visible has some light brown feathers.
