@vkc Hopefully we can make Wayland a cosy niche on phones too!
@vkc I like your style.. yeah, is true that sometimes people don't deal very well with words. I am monkey. Are you monkey? : )
If you assume yourself as monkey, you don't become a monkey.. so what happen if someone get offended by imagining themselfs as monkeys?
The Power to Imagine is what people need to learn to deal with.
OpenBSD is a niche and monkeys are niche's too! :D
@vkc hear, hear
@vkc Okay, I'll bite. In what way does Wayland not work for some people's use cases?
"Desktop isn't niche! I need a desktop for [insert niche here]"
Also, niches are great! Like, I don't call desktop computing a niche to slam it.
But perspective is really important when describing problems and potential solutions. Folks getting mad about Wayland because of [niche use] really don't speak for the majority of users of our niche operating system on niche hardware.
But, they're loud and it scares folks away in many cases.
@vkc Using computers that aren't Google/Apple phones is sus
There are times my software works better on X11- music production being a big one (plugins and scaling). So... I install a minimal X11 DE for those particular days and move on with my life. Someday I probably won't have to!
Things don't have to work for everyone every time in order to be awesome.
@vkc Do you even need that? I just run Ardour in a KDE Wayland session, it works fine under XWayland ^^
@vkc
The fun of Linux being flexible :)
@vkc no, no pragmatic options are allowed. Only pick one!
If you ever use VS Code, you are no longer allowed to open vim or emacs!
And whatever you pick, you have to yell at people that don’t use it! We all know their needs are the exact same as yours!
@vkc I'd be curious to hear about your DAW setup. I'm asking as someone wanting to get into remixing and production, but whose main, and most powerful, machines are all running Linux.
@vkc Agreed.
I tried a linux desktop switch from Windows last week on my new computer.
It just... doesn't work for my very specific use case. Had to go back to Windows.
Does that make linux bad? Does that make Windows better? Nope!
@vkc I'm mostly bitter about Wayland because I don't want to have to buy a new GPU I can't afford just to get equivalent functionality to what I already have.
