Yes, yes, YES! Discussions between total strangers in the comments of a blog, podcast, video channel, or stream are not social networking. They are a feature of social media.

Conversely, social networking can involve sharing text, audio, video, and a range of other media. But it's sharing to a specific person or people (like email), not to the public at large.

As I've said before, the fediverse can be used for both. But need apps that clearly separate the 2, so people know how to do both, and can makes choices about which they want to do at any given time.
