@sabrinaweb71 @aral @joynewacc they are connected to a scam campaign that targeted the Fediverse last summer around July/August (and one of the factors that eventually led to #GazaVerified).

I also supported one of those accounts impersonating Ola Abu Moamer (an Al-Jazeera reporter) by helping her create an account on my instance (@ola@manganiello.social, now offline) after she was banned on other instances because of several red flags.

After I spotted many red flags too (like refusal to provide any proof of verification, joining a call, using a Canadian IP address all the time, and posting only Instagram screenshots, without even bothering to crop the bottom bar, so the original profile picture of the actual owner was still visible), I decided to reach out to the “real” Ola on her verified Instagram profile - and she could confirm that it was a case of impersonation.

What really hurts me is that I’ve reported that campaign 3 times already to the staff of Chuffed, including screenshots, IPs and other pieces of evidence, and they’ve refused both to reply and to take down the campaign so far.

And then our poor @rouh needs to go through these struggles just to raise a couple of hundreds of dollars, while those scammers have raised hundreds of thousands that could have gone to these people in need instead…

(Btw, to anyone who sees this, please report that scam campaign, and feel free to mention me in your reports because I have plenty of evidence. I really want all that money to be forwarded to our gaza-verified folks if possible)
