I need some tips or advice.

I would like to reimage my (Intel) MacBook Pro.
The reason is that i suspect some low level third party drivers are messing up my power management (therefore i don't want to restore from the Time Machine backup)

In the (distant) past I dinos replaced the ssd but this isn't possible.

So my question, what is the best way to create an (ideally bootable) disk image of my #MacOS installation?

@realn2s or it will even install it over the internet if the recovery partition is megaborked

@JessTheUnstill
🙏🏻
That would be fine. The thing is, I just want a real complete backup before I do this :-/

@realn2s looks like they really really want you to just go off the recovery partition these days. https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-macos-recovery-on-an-intel-based-mac-mchl338cf9a8/mac

@realn2s have you tried finding the culprit? Activity monitor is fairly good at identifying memory and cpu hogs, and the system structure should prevent 3rd party extensions from leaking into the core system - so it should be feasible to remove only what is really broken. Reimaging is tricky (you always end up with your previous drivers), unless you’re willing to use TimeMachine for only the data, and reinstall all the 3rd party software.

@weltraumpirat
My system is a multi step migration from the Power days 😐
And it contains some proprietary drivers for USB stuff.
All my (limited) research into finding the cuplrit hasn't been successful.
The thin I really would like to fix the the sleep mode. My system doesn't seem to sleep properly. Battery runs out within a day even if the lid is closed.
I'm not sure how I can figure out what keeps my mac awake

@realn2s the usb stuff should stop draining the battery, if the gadget is unplugged. If that has no effect, the culprit is likely elsewhere.
