@ajroach42 Oh actually yes! I'm most interested in feature length talkies but I'll always consider recs for those categories too. Last year I reviewed "A Trap for Santa Claus" and "Christmas Comes But Once a Year" and the somewhat unusual pick of variations on "The Three Godfathers" (the original novella and various PD film versions).
The animated versions of Rudolph are on my consideration list for this year (despite the source song remaining under copyright). I'm happy to expand the list!
@LeoKirke I've been looking for an excuse to score this one: https://vod.newellijay.tv/w/1eamLLZ19EfboPDeNV5ra1
It's not exactly an uplifting christmas story, as it is mostly about blowing up an orphanage.
But it is Disney's first holiday short.
@ajroach42 I've never actually covered an Oswald short in the zine before and it's ripe for the theme, so I am definitely in on this one!
Also cripes, every time I review an early Disney short it's always about Mickey Mouse or whoever just torturing every living creature he encounters...sheesh.
@LeoKirke There's the episode of Dragnet where the kid gets a gun for christmas and uses it to commit crimes.
Season 2, episode 7. "The Big .22 riffle for christmas" or something like that.
It was also a radio episode.
@ajroach42 I am learning, at the same time, that there was an earlier Dragnet series and that episodes of it are in the public domain. I didn't know about the radio show either. Wow!!!!!
@LeoKirke Oh, yeah. All the 50s episodes are in the public domain.
There's a decent chrismas episode of Date with the Angels, IIRC, and one for Life with Elizabeth, I think?
@ajroach42 I never did find a Life with Elizabeth Christmas episode, but I did find this, just in case you've never seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kKRwoqiSko
