@TheZorse You’re so right—our privacy is only as strong as the weakest link. It’s infuriating how much our privacy depends on others’ choices, especially when so many people don’t even realize the risks. 😞
I’ve taken a bit of a “tough love” approach to encourage better habits: I only respond to non-Gmail addresses. If someone emails me from Gmail, they either don’t get a reply or have to wait weeks until I check my spam filter. It sounds harsh, but it works—people start using ProtonMail or Tuta when they realize their messages won’t get through otherwise.
It’s not about punishing anyone—it’s about making privacy-respecting communication the easier (and faster!) option. And honestly? It’s amazing how quickly people adapt when they realize their provider affects your response time. 😉
Want to try it? Start small:
1. Set up a filter to auto-archive Gmail messages.
2. Reply slowly (or not at all) to Gmail senders.
3. Mention in your email signature: “For faster replies, email me via ProtonMail, Tuta, or RiseUp address!”
PS. I used a similar approach to make people switch messengers—and it worked like a charm.
