But ‘independent’ and ‘artist’ are not defined anywhere. I fear this might be the thin end of the wedge for the Fediverse which will inevitably become contaminated by clicky commerce..

I think this is a situation where you have to just look at the account to see what it's like and what its track record is, and take it on trust based on that? 🙂
What else can be done? It would be much worse to be ignoring independent artists altogether.

The country would be useful, yes!
Most shops now will take all currencies though, it gets converted automatically by your card company.
@FediTips Yes, but the cost of postage can be too expensive, and knowing the country would save time
