@cstross -- Hieronymous Bosch does the holidays. It'll be a classic.
@cstross In my youth there were things like Quality Assurance 🤪
@cstross anything to not pay an actual artist.... 🙃
@cstross it's like The Thing but with stock images
@cstross Everybody sing!!!! OH THEY SAY THIS IS CHRISTMASSSSSSSS
A monster horror story…! Yuck!
@cstross I mean, maybe it looks ok from afar, who knows.
@cstross Fucking hell Charlie you've put me off my pint bleargh
@cstross very bad brueghel and bosh cross xd
@cstross So much puzzling about this thing, and I'm maybe irrationally focused on why are the people splashing about in a flooded road?
@cstross To me, nothing says Christmas more than massive hallucination.
@cstross
This is the definitive artistic commentary on the dystopian hellscape that is AI.. How fitting that it is AI itself handing it to us. Mankind is finished.
Merry christmas
@cstross WHAT IN THE FRESH EBENEZER SCROOGE HELL IS THIS?!
@cstross It takes an even more bizarre and dispiriting turn unfortunately: https://www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork-london-kingston-upon-thames-axed
At least our overlords are finally letting us know who they truly serve.
@cstross Sales went down after it was realised that shoppers going in were not coming out and the Christmas display continued to grow in numbers.
@cstross This perfectly expresses how I feel about the yuletide. They should do an AI slop Christmas pageant on TV.
@cstross My town, so proud! (Not proud!)
@cstross
Looks like the Ai that generated this Xmas "art" was trained on Hieronymus Bosch.
@cstross
Over the mutants and through the slop
to 16-fingered grandmother's tesseract house we BZZZZZT!
@cstross These sorts of images remind me more of the early part of Stanislaw Lem's novel, Eden, with the automated factories that seem to produce nonsensical objects.
Rereading a summary of it, I feel like the novel may be more relevant than I'd remembered.
@cstross @Richard_Littler #Scarfolk would struggle to create something as cursed as that 😁
@cstross I'm beginning to think Z̵̠͌̅͊̀͝a̵͓͐͌̆̋̇̾̓̀̇͒͆͑̅̕͠l̷̛̪̘̼͉͕̣̤̥̫̓͂̐̎̀̊̔͐̐̑͒͘ͅg̸͉͖̜͚͇̘̣͕̯͔̞͚͛́́̔̂̀̃̊̏͆̾̐͛͆̑̀ǫ̶̨̤̟̲̳̹̖͖̱̱̲͓͜͜͝ ̵̡͙̠̻̳̻̙͍͆͂̋̓̇̃̚̚͝r̷̢̨̰͈̯͎̥̪͚̩̰̣͈̲̭̊̏̈́̏͂̅͌̕ͅe̵̗͔̭͚̰̠͍̦̰͈͑ͅǎ̷͓̗̥͈̺͎̱͙̼̖̰͓̯̐̑̋̉̿̓̀̿̃͑͌̽̏͗l̵̢̬̰̻̗͈̭͎̫͉̜̍̈́́̂̍͂̂͒̎̈́̐̏͘͜͜͜͠l̴̡̨̧̨̠͕̬͙̭̬̹̗͓̃̎͒̂͊̔y̴̨̹͚͇͙͚̤̙͔̎̓͆̾ ̶̧̺̪͖̺͖̯̠̦̰̲̖͆̑̓͋́̆́̕͜l̷͍̙̹͉̱͖͔̝̝̱̮̼̹̠͉͍̍͑̂͘ͅḯ̵̳̪̞̻̥͉̻͗͋͒̄͋̉̒͌̓͝͝v̵̧̫̤̦͐̋͑̐͘ͅe̷̟͈̹͕̲͇̠͔̜̯̱̞͎̺͔̥͐͂̆͝s̷̢̛̛̰̰̺̫̙̝̹͎͔̋̾̄͊̒̈́͊̈́
You would think at least one person working on that project, between the idiot who generated it and the print shop, would have actually looked at the result and said, "Yeah. No…"
@jackwilliambell Turns out the story is far weirder than that: it's by a respected artist, who was making a comment—and it's being taken down because the fascists thought it was about them.
[Shakes head in wonderment at both the weirdness and assholery of humanity.]
@jackwilliambell I dunno. If I were working at that shop and they showed me one that looked like the poster image to a Hallmark movie and this one. I'd "accidentally" pick this one.
@cstross Holy crap. It’s a modern version of a Bosch, but without any humour.
@cstross my household is planning a pilgrimage to see this festive wonder in person
@cstross
"Furry the Triploid Snowman 🎶 🎶 "
@cstross "....and that, my friends, is how we summoned the Hounds of Tindalos to rampage through six major metropolitan cities at the same time. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk."
@cstross It's like Rob Bottin and David Cronenberg got drunk together.
On absinthe.
