I've completely abandoned any promotion since my book, Drystone - A Life Rebuilt came out in August because honestly, I'm sick of it. Sick of talking about myself. Sick of thinking about my past. Sick of being online loads. All three are incredibly bad for me. So, while I'd love it if you bought my book (it's genuinely really good) I'm not willing to rinse myself to persude you.

(Either I'm fucking terrible at promotion, or I'm twenty years ahead ;)

A book cover for Drystone - A Life Rebuilt by Kristie De Garis. The design features five abstract painted stone shapes in deep green, yellow, blue, purple, and black, each containing part of the title in white lettering. The stones are arranged loosely in a stack on a pale background, with the author’s name at the bottom. The cover sits against a solid mustard-yellow backdrop.

@kristiedegaris I'm very impressed at how well you did at promoting it, but can't say I'm surprised that it's the least favorite part for you. If you were good at it and liked it, well, you'd be a completely different person who couldn't have written that book!

@kristiedegaris putting yourself behind the thing you poured yourself into can be really draining in a particular way. Sometimes it feels like you spent all of the time working on the thing that you really don't have much left to do all of the rest of the song and dance! Good on you for finding your own balance. Excited to read your book :)

@kristiedegaris where would someone in rural Manitoba, Canada, go to buy the book? It is nor on Apple Books or Kindle. Some UK retailers will not ship to Canada.

@kristiedegaris I loved your book, and my OH read it straight after me. It's not light reading by any means but it is honest and eye-opening. Thank you for writing it.

To cheer you up, here's a picture of my goats on the 'stone wall bench' I 'built' last year based on your how-to blogposts.

@kristiedegaris @benjamincox I work at a college and will never forget the day the instructor in the classroom opposite my office was walking to the doorway to close it, and stated, "if you're not *sick of it,* you're not done yet. That's part of writing." (I *think* it was a 200 level English class.) True for so many things... }
Keep on being you 😊 :)

@Davida_Taylor Thank you! For buying and reading and these kind words.

It's not readers, it's the world of publishing. It's been truly shocking to discover how much authors themselves are behind sales.

@kristiedegaris @Davida_Taylor I always thought publishing companies did the heavy lifting when it came to marketing books since I assumed they had a vested interest in their books selling well. I guess not?
