The photo near the end of the article (where future Pope Leo is on the right, Pope JP II is on the left, unknown person is in the background between them) shows him from a similar angle as the photo you posted. I mean, I want the 'Blues Brothers'ish photo to be him, but I don't think the resemblance is strong.
