Actually, the way that *any* tech company could make a shit ton of money by offering their devices in pink. I'd buy a pink monitor, a pink Android phone, a pink washing machine etc, as long as it has decent specs.
But nooooo. Catering to female consumers? I think ✨️not✨️. Aside from headsets, everything must be boring colors.

@Gina Some manufacturers are better than others. For phones, Apple and Google have always been fastidiously uninspiring (IMO).
Remember when consoles, and other consumer tech, had swappable shells? Or when third-party vendors made sticky "skins"? I seem to remember that the Xbox360 was huge on the former, and MacBooks for the latter.
Suppose it's harder to do now that all tech is intended to be replaced every 12 months to meet Number Must Go Up corporate requirements. 😒

@Gina Hopefully it will at least end up like the steamdeck - with a gazillion shells to replace the standard one, easy ways to change it. (I vaguely remember seeing people write about local computer shops (or maybe repair cafes) offering help with that, too.)

Contrary position: I hate it, if products which are thought for females are pink.
(And even more, if it is marketed for female children)
@bergamlaimerin fair. I love seeing a typically male marketed product (like a gaming device) offered in hot pink. Sort of as a "we're not afraid to include different demographics" even if performative. I'll pay extra if it's bedazzled.
Anything pink-washed like pink razors (and Razer the company btw) can fk off.
@Gina There are Steam Deck transparent pink shell parts. So even if Valve doesn’t I wouldn’t be surprised if others offer aftermarket pink cases for the Steam Machine, and it’s probably an easier swap than taking a hairdryer to the Steam Deck screen to shell swap

@Gina I don't have enough room under my tv for another console and I can't get rid of the Xbox because my daughter uses it as an expensive dvd player but damn do I want a Steam Machine.
@mijndert I do as well, even though it would prob be smarter to just build a new pc at this point.
@Gina I think a different smart move would be to wait for a new Steam Deck that's hopefully a slightly underclocked version of the Steam Machine, and plug that into your tv when needed.
@mijndert meh I don't have a lot of faith in handhelds as full blown pc replacements anymore. My current steamdeck has the graphics of a potato.
