Something that has always bothered me is how creativity gets completely left out the picture when it comes to research. For example, it doesn't even get mentioned in most formulations of the scientific method. But doing research requires you to first come up with a meaningful hypothesis to evaluate. That requires *immense* creativity, if your research is to have any impact or value. Leaving that creative process out is a very "draw the rest of the owl" sort of approach. I think this aspect should be emphasized by educators, not glossed over. Imagine if prospective researchers (or even students in general) were actually trained in how to be effectively creative, not just in how to do evidence based reasoning!
