"The coalition government is exploring the potential sale of its stake in the telecommunications lines company Chorus after investing in the rollout of ultrafast broadband."

Good to see Peters has found his spine again for long enough to attack selling off chunks of essential infrastructure as the clueless nonsense it is. But I bet the Greens' criticism is a bit more fact-based. "Failed to fix the economy fast enough" my arse.

CLuxon: Hey Nicky, you know that telecommunications backbone that every part of our economy depends on, as well as the government itself?

Nicky NoBoats: You mean the fibre optic network, an obvious natural monopoly, that any sensible country would keep in full public ownership?

CLuxon: Yeah that one.

Nicky NoBoats: The one that had to be taken back into public ownership, after more than a decade of corporate owners using it to extract rents from competitors and customers?

CLuxon: That's the one.

Nicky NoBoats: The one that the last NatACT government sank huge wads of public money into? Getting it connected to buildings to give people 21st century broadband, so we could get the full value out of having it.

CLuxon: Yeah, that. Um ... how much of your budget shortfall do you think you could cover if we took it to Cash Converters?

Nicky NoBoats: The fibre network?

CLuxon: Yeah.

Nicky NoBoats: A bit. But maybe if we sold a *bunch* of the public's stuff ...
