Imagine if 30,000 of the world's universities each published 5 diamond open access journals, and each of those journals published just 20 properly peer-reviewed articles per year...
That'd be capacity for 3 million articles per year.
I'm not saying that's exactly the way things should go, but it's an interesting thought. It doesnt take much for diamond open access to tip from a minority to a majority condition, and with Oxford & Harvard doing it, I think the future is bright for diamond...
It's quite a contrast to the model of commercial publishing with e.g. SpringerNature's 'Scientific Reports' high degree of centralization and 30,000+ articles per year published at a sticker price of $2590 USD each (> $77.7 million in total?).
