The ACA/Obamacare is by no means perfect, but it's been game changing for those with "preexisting conditions" who lacked good employer-subsidized care.

We will soon add the fact that we can't provide stable, affordable health care coverage to the list of self-inflicted national wounds.

@mattblaze Early retirement will no longer be an option for many. Age discrimination is real, I lost my corporate job at 63 and trade workers are often forced by health to retire early.

@mattblaze This. My partner can attest to it with their own horror stories pre-ACA. It was never as much as it should have been, but it made a huge difference for so many lives.

@mattblaze
Someone trying to silence all mention of basic human rights topics by screaming POLITICS!!! is not an earnest voice.

Block the trolls. There's no point trying to understand their pseudo-concerns or explain anything to them.

The people who actually don't want to engage with current events know how to do it without trying to force the world to comply.

@cigitalgem It's fucking exhausting though. And there's this voice in my head telling me I'm somehow a bad person for posting about current events.

@mattblaze I am appreciative of your efforts on all the fronts. Just know that lots of us out here are ...we even chose to follow you on mastodon. Imagine that.

@mattblaze
I always thought the CW thing was a courtesy thing not a requirement.
Saying that unfollowing is not necesarily a solution as I saw this not because I follow you but because someone I follow boosted it.

@mattblaze That is the most annoying one. I'm here to talk politics (and post pictures of my cats). Should I have to put a CW on every post?

@PaulDitz Some people are allergic to cats, but I'm not aware of anyone with an allergy to cat pictures.

@mattblaze 👍 We are in a “post-politics” era in the US. Politics, as we knew it, no longer exists.

@mattblaze Obama care allowed me to quit my corporate job and focus on my little business. Knowing that I would be able to get health insurance.

@mattblaze I lived with Crohn's disease for years before a doctor would diagnose me... trying to treat symptoms because acknowledging the disease was worse for my personally... literally lifesaving in ways that are incredibly hard to measure, but incredibly important.

@mattblaze as I vaguely recall, Hank Green posted a video years ago about how he wouldn't have been able to take the risk starting his small businesses if it weren't for the ACA. Life without the ACA means we're all stuck working as salarymen in safe corporate jobs until Medicare kicks in, which just leads to economic and intellectual stagnation.

@DaveMWilburn The pro-entrepreneurship aspects of the ACA aren't discussed nearly enough. It gives people freedom to take risks and start businesses.

@mattblaze @DaveMWilburn absolutely agree with this. I, myself, am a case in point here. The ACA frees up and encourages entrepreneurship in America.

@mattblaze @DaveMWilburn Same here, I wouldn’t have gone solo without the ability to get affordable healthcare.

I remember long stretches when I was a kid and my dad was working temp jobs between full-time gigs. We “weren’t allowed to get sick or hurt” since we were uninsured for long periods of months or years at a time.

I don’t have to take those chances now

@mattblaze @DaveMWilburn I literally couldn't start a business because the health care need... so many people overlook how stifled innovation is when people are worried about the basics

@mattblaze Obamacare saved my life when my family (my employer) refused to give me healthcare and I was gonna die when I needed $250,000 for lifesaving medication. Literally at the last moment. I shouldn’t be here. It was pre-determined my life isn’t worth that much. Gonna be a lot of people unable to say that anymore and no one will notice the survivorship bias.
