I had heard of John Forester’s “vehicular cycling” obsession and his lycra-guy advocates but I didn’t know just how ridiculous and sadly influential he was.

I have been cycling pretty much everywhere for over thirty years, most of of my life. It means a lot to me.

And I hate the term “cyclist” as a generic term, because it stems from exactly these ableist, ignorant assholes who want to make it more dangerous to please their egos.

@beka_valentine @aesthr @recursive "savvy cycling" isn't, but ... it's not doing too well. I'm about to head out and take my lane ... in my cargo bike 😜 And use the bike lane for that part of it, proud to have helped get it in there.

@beka_valentine @aesthr @recursive "Savvy cyclist" folks are still talking their talk, but it's fading. I think you can still take a "savvy cycling" course (one in my neighborhood broke his arm doin' it years ago).
The more we get good infrastructure, the more people see that it works.
Now, the "stick a sort of bike lane here" without connectivity and with ambiguity at the intersections runs a risk of being like roundabouts -- badly done, they make people reject them automatically.
