When I first started backpacking around Aotearoa in the late 1990s, a walk-on ferry ticket cost about $25. When I booked a walk-on ferry ticket today, it cost over $100. I flew from Kirikiriroa to Ōtautahi a couple of months ago for not much more than that. It's a ridiculous situation.
