I opened my 12v battery charger that had a magic smoke event in the past to see if I could fix it...
I don't understand how that kind of electronic could be sold in EU (bought it in Hubo or Brico IIRC).

  • Fuse but at the output only
  • Only a transformer. Not a single cap to flatten the voltage, I'm not even sure there is a diode rectifier.
  • No connection to ground (no ground pin) despite the all metal packaging
  • Absolutely no charge monitoring, fail check or anything

This thing is a electrical shock hazard in addition to a fire hazard. Let's say it burns (like it did) and one of the copper wire touches the case... Nothing would happen (not even differential tripping) until the owner touches the case and gets shocked.

bought it for 50€ at Hubo in 2015, maybe the certification rules improved since then.
