I’m trying to give up #dairy in my #coffee and the non-dairy substitutes don’t really do it for me. But I stumbled on something I like that’s cheap, good, and actually good for the body: a tablespoon of flax oil. The earthy flavor is very compatible with coffee and it gives the cup a wonderful silky mouthfeel. I’ve learned to ignore the oil slick at the top of the cup. It goes down gradually with the rest of the coffee even though they don’t really mix in the cup.

@impermanen_ Have you tried oat milk? I find it's almost indistinguishable from moo milk, even in a cappuccino. Adds just a touch of a nutty flavor that I've grown to like.

Oatly is especially good. They make a "half-and-half" that works well in American-style coffee.

@zenkat I like it ok but I’m pre-diabetic and the blood sugar spikes from the starches just wipe me out.

@impermanen_ Does buttered coffee work for you, or still too much lactose? (Butter has emulsifiers, which might prevent the oil layer you get with flax oil.)

@zenkat @impermanen_ I don't add anything to the coffee. Though I don't think plain coffee is capable of reproducing dairy taste. Sweetness is doable though.

Downside is though that hunting down the perfect coffee can be bit of a rabbit hole.
