My dad who is 81 recently got into trouble cause the app where he pays his bills decided that his phone is too old.

He has a fully functional phone that’s a couple of years old but he now needs to throw it away because of software.

I think this is bullshit.

@kolombiken I continue to drop services that are app-only, in favor of ones that provide websites. I have the privilege and technical knowledge to do that, though.

If your job is to build software and you decide that you’re not going to support “old devices “ then you need to understand that you’re making life more difficult for people who are already struggling with tech.
Elderly, people with disabilities, people who lack the means to buy the latest.

Lets rethink this.

@kolombiken I had the same with a UK banking app from #NatWest, when the *only* way to access online banking was using the app. So I switched banks, and can use the app from a different UK bank, #Lloyds two years later with the same creaking old phone.

Clearly this is a choice.

My phone is a pretty ancient #Android costing £60 on eBay, which I like.
