I know I'm a Mastodon host-and-janitor sort, and I love my communities and have no intention of abandoning our founding Herd and its offspring. But @anewsocial 's People Not Platforms mantra led to my own hollaback when I took my techno-urbanism pursuits and tripped into seeing a need for Purpose, not Products, in what is being offered to communities and Digital Third Places.
Bonfire's not looking to me like an easy to onboard, one-click signup, just-another-microblog option ...

@johannab this should be getting so much more funding but it is very hard to raise for lego: people have to see themselves in this.

@boris I'd love to see CoSocial, budget willing, continue to offer support to new and evolving fediverse features, whether that is a donation to a development campaign or some in-kind work or services exchange.
I'm trying to find a hosting option independent of the Coop just now for my own experiment and I hope to have a future academic connection, so didn't want to commit any other actual person or collective to anything outside of my having 100% access (just for now).
@johannab we have the ability to share servers. In some ways, you and I experimenting on our own is a failure of the shared structure.
Which is not the same as reliably offered services, which also needs to exist.
I don’t have a solution to this but I think we should figure it out.
Soooo.... when I poked my head up the other day to ask about hosting options on the TLs, a couple things we haven't found through Mick's investigations came up, or maybe they're newer than Mick could find.
Mike from theCanadian dot social and Chris T. have both been in touch as they are hosting or wanting to host fedi-instances, but there's no set offering for what the coop needs (yet). But possible reciprocal partnerships might exist?
