In Canada, the CBC might be the kind of entity to help run / coordinate “public service social media” as described in this Tech Policy Press article https://www.techpolicy.press/public-service-social-media-as-a-democratic-safeguard/
With interoperable standards and options for hosting, this could be a mix of shared infrastructure (& moderation) as well as individual orgs like Gander https://gandersocial.ca and #CoSocialCa

... rather, I see it being akin to a strategic planning system, the catalogue of governance and procedural tools a community uses in consulting and collaborating on the building of their place.
Standard disclaimers: I am in no way affiliated with Bonfire. But the urban futurist in me is spotting what we call a "signal", an early marker at the start of a new path.
So I'm boosting, possibly flogging, this campaign as I want to see this come to be in my fediverse.
@johannab this should be getting so much more funding but it is very hard to raise for lego: people have to see themselves in this.
I’ve put some money to do some self hosting experiments with.
I’d like to suggest that #CoSocialCa chip in, what do you think?
We successfully held our 2025 #CoSocialAGM last night and welcomed 2 directors to our board (one new, @jdd and the other, @evan returning).
Stay tuned for blog post sharing more about outcomes from our meeting and the year ahead!
We affirmed our strategy right now has three priorities:
Growth
Member Experience
Service Expansion
We have some feedback and workshopping on what we can do for each.
For #CoSocialCa members, we want to hear what activities that support the above priorities you are interested in!
🗳️ Please vote before Nov 14: https://members.cosocial.ca/t/poll-2025-2027-strategic-plan-and-activities/713
#CosocialCa #CoSocialAGM who else is wearing a costume for the AGM?

We've also put out a call for nominations for #CoSocialCa Directors and participation in the coop.
We have space for up to 5 new Directors on the board and need members to step forward onto our TechOps and Membership working groups.
The Board meets quarterly and working groups typically meet monthly. We have mentorship and support for people new to coops and/or boards!
To nominate someone to the board: https://members.cosocial.ca/t/call-for-nominations/686
For the working groups: https://luma.com/jd0t0xtr or respond here!

@Crissy @atomicpoet @reiver Hey, if you want any tips on running a coop, #CoSocialCa would love to help out.
Our #CoSocialCA September Assembly 🌰 is about to start: https://luma.com/rfllv9sr
We hear updates from the working group and chat about budget requests for the remainder of the financial year (we promise it is more exciting than it sounds)

Is this something we want to consider for #CoSocialCa ? I'm in favour of using Bridgy personally, though I wouldn't want to force others if they preferred not to use it. How do other members of our community feel about it?
