Does anyone have a recommendation for a not-too-expensive, beginner telescope?
I grew up in the country looking at the stars (though never got into it seriously) and recently returned to the country. I've watched all 500 episodes of #StarTalk and am a patreon subscriber. I'm not looking to get into it every night, but every so often when a planet is close or a meteor shower is happening.
Also if it can take a beating that helps. I'm clumsy and walk with a cane!
@MikeImBack I'd actually recommend binoculars to start with. Cheaper, and really helps you learn the sky better. (My local astro club has a great starter list with star charts, designed for binocular users: https://regina.rasc.ca/content/beginners-observing-list)
Also many local astronomy clubs have telescopes to rent or borrow, so you may be able to try some out before buying if you get in touch with your local club
@sundogplanets I do have some binoculars already (thought nothing special) and I'm so far away from any city...There are a couple small planetariums nearby though...maybe I can plan day to visit
