"The best economic response is a health driven response", was something we once knew and could have learned for good, but here we are instead.

Mystified about rampant disease after letting a immune system damaging virus on the loose and refusing to even name it anymore.

"The Economy" is just people. It's that simple. Keep the people healthy, you'll have a healthier economy.

@pezmico Prevention is always better than the cure - even for the economy.

But not for the next quarter profit numbers for the filthy rich who don't like seeing their numbers go up less fast for a minute or two and can afford to have prevention for themselves alone.

@pezmico Sounds like a deliberate miscalculation. Starts off acknowledging what workplace risk and productivity loss sick leave is there to reduce, but then shifts to assuming that using it brings no benefit whatsoever.

We need a proper experimental study in which we send people into a workplace – say, the Business NZ offices or parliament – broadcasting carefully calibrated snot-clearing sounds and sprinkles of cowpox pustule powder – so we can get a proper measure of the cost on the other side instead of what this Business NZ CEO "Rich" reckons. Do you think that her name was picked to say whose side she's on?

@pezmico when access to healthcare is variable based on wealth and privilege, and when the same can be said about feeling the economic consequences, then the lesson can safely be ignored by those at the top.
