The 430 lb donkeys don’t accept the idea that their 1000 lb horse buddy gets a lot more food than they do.

“We could weigh 1000 lbs, too, you know if you’d just feed us properly!”

A donkey looking imploringly at the camera with another behind him looking on. The rear end of a horse (who is still working on his breakfast) is in the background at the edge of the frame.

They are better guard donkeys than horses. Right up there with llamas and alpacas, and geese.

@huntingdon so they deserve EVEN MORE than the horse gets. Yes, this is what I’m hearing, too. I ask them if they intend to simply crush the bears and wolves under the sheer weight of their gigantic bellies and they just stare at me, pretending not to understand.

I should have said watch animal, rather than guard animal, though no one should want to be within striking distance of a mule or donkey's lethal kick.

@huntingdon interesting note to add here: donkeys certainly do kick but their keen sense of justice applies to their own use of force as well. If you’re simply being annoying, you might get an “air kick” not intended to make contact. If you continue to be a pest, a tiny tap or a very precise near miss. They have amazing millimeter-level of control. Only if you’re really posing a danger will they haul off and pummel the living daylights out of you.
