🎉 BIG WIN for small tech! 🎉

While #Apple continues to protect its #monopoly, #Google wants to settle the case with #EpicGames, allowing developers to:

✅ Link to outside payments
✅ Share direct downloads
✅ Skip Google’s 30% cut

Are we seeing a revival of "Don't be evil" after all?

@Tutanota "Are we seeing a revival of 'Don't be evil' after all?"

Nope. What's in the past is the past.

Only way forward is to minimize exposure to Google.

@Tutanota Oh. Google changed their credo from 'Do no evil' to 'Do know evil' many years ago now.

@Tutanota I'm not sure who exactly is supposed to be 'small tech' in this scenario? Epic Games?

@Tutanota a settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing & it's not the same as losing your case. Honestlly don't totally understand why settling out of court is allowed, other than "money makes the world go round" & to free up court resources. 🤨 if its important enough to bring to court it should be important enough to reach a decisive ruling.

@fdroidorg @Tutanota one thing i do (in addition to ask to call representative to kill this plan of google), is to push people to graphene or any alternative Android that is not certified by google.

So at least those device will still work if this pass.

I guess it time to flee any device that is "certified", because even if we block this they will try again later.

@Tutanota but sadly at wat cost, their program to force dev to sign their app, accept their TOS and pay a fee would kill fdroid...
