@sisc @laurenshof you don't need to follow what you call mainstream. But mainstream needs a democratic open social web.

Kein Mainstream! Unabhängig, werbefrei und die (rechten) Trolle werden geblockt! 🤷🏻♂️😁🤗👍💪
@bjoernsta @laurenshof I do not need mainstream in my timeline

@bjoernsta @sisc @laurenshof This is the point.
@bjoernsta @laurenshof I will probably come off as elitist and stuck up--a bit hollier than thou--but I just see no reason to appeal to the masses.
The quality of person who participates here is just better. Last thing we need is the mass of idiots from facebook and twitter here behaving the way they behave and filling the place with that crap. The advertisers would be sure to come and the little servers would get crushed out of existence. They don't play nice.
Keep being unappealing.
@crazyeddie @bjoernsta the challenge here is that much of the financing of the development of the fediverse is predicated on the network eventually having mass appeal
@laurenshof @bjoernsta It might be time to start being choosy.
And those wanting mass *appeal* are not focused on the right goal. What you want is mass *adoption*. While being appealing is a good path toward adoption, it's not the only one. Sometimes trying to be appealing actually gets in the way--a fact that goes beyond software design.
