I mess with kicad frequently but never gone as far as to make an actual PCB from it. It seems quite good as far as my limited experience can tell.
@brainofdane KiCAD! Using it since years and it’s really good. Sure Altium etc are still better but for private and professional projects I do not wanna use something else at the moment (because the complexity of my PCBs are still manageable with KiCAD).
@brainofdane Since #Eagle is owned by Autodesk now and AFAIK cloud only #kicad is the only viable option.
@giggls Eagle was the one I rememberd from years ago. I'm glad to hear there's still at least one viable open source alternative.
@brainofdane I have build a container based on an old Debian image and a working instance of the old free for non commercial use eagle version to be able to open old designs.
@brainofdane I have KiCAD ( https://www.kicad.org/ ) on my Debian system. I went to a talk where the speaker designed a simple circuit on it, including the diagram and a board layout.
It's awesome and very feature rich, but kind of intimidating.
@lemgandi awesome! Do you by any chance have a link to the talk? I'd be interested to watch it.
@brainofdane Sigh. Alas, I don't think it was recorded. It was at a monthly Arduino meetup.
@lemgandi ah, well, it was worth a try! I'm sure there are plenty of videos and tutorials out there. Thanks for the recommendation!
