Installed #Vivaldi today (I had been using #Firefox for the past ... 20 years or so?) - First Impressions:

  • it is really fast (definitely faster than FF)
  • very easy to import bookmarks from Firefox (exported html)
  • uBlock and Zotero connector work fine
  • adding No AI DuckDuckGo was easy
  • noAI :)

Bonus: link to their Mastodon server on the toolbar 馃槉

Might have problems later but for now I like it! Thanks @Vivaldi 馃檶

@elduvelle heard that while #vivaldi is based on chromium, it's not open source. so they could be doing malicious things, just under the radar 馃珷

@manisha yes, I have seen this argument. It's true that it is not fully open-source but it seems most of their code (which is from Chromium) is open source. The part that is closed source is apparently just for the UI - they explain it here: https://vivaldi.com/blog/technology/why-isnt-vivaldi-browser-open-source/

Of course they could do weird stuff on those 5% of closed-source code. But I guess if they do and are found out, most users will immediately leave so.. why would they do that?

I guess I'll trust them for now..
