I regret that I could not share more about the @openzfs Summit in real time but there is only one of me. Thank you @rubenerd for your great @bhyvecon live microblogging in Tokyo long ago!
Nonetheless, the event stood out for having everyone truly want to be there out of pure passion for the technology and community.
The kitchen lead was a storage architect. The paid A/V was provided by #OpenZFS administrator@BSDTV and we introduced several innovations to the workflow. The set up and tear down helpers were all users and administrators.
With the insane overhead cost of most tech events and misery of so many people participating, I hope we can all experience more of this. No one “had” to be there. They wanted to be there, and it shows.
I don’t know to what size this model can scale, but it’s worth exploring.
We had 51 registrations total, a handful of which were for remote participation.
We received some flak for not being a source of sales leads and badge scans, but that was never, ever, the point of the event.
Thank you everyone who participated in the 2025 OpenZFS (Production) User and Developer Summit we might be seeing you on the East coast in April.
It is a pleasure and honor to work with all of you!
❤️
