Apurva Ashok (Rebus Community) is leading the discussion today, a dialogue with adrienne maree brown about the future of education and openness.
Apurva asks adrienne, "with the layoffs, policy changes, and other challenges facing high education today, how do you think we can thrive beyond survival in the current moment?" (paraphrased)
adrienne replies, "We built these gorgeous institutions and infrastructures, but we are operating within systems that don't share the same goals we share. We're trying to activate our imagination and the imagination of those we teach so we can imagine a better future." Emphasizing shared goals and the need to understand that change is constant.
She continues, "Instead of trying to build the biggest fortified structure of mass," we need to build connections with others and find those shared goals so wee can align our work and make change happen.
"Adaptation should emerge from capacity," adrienne adds. We may be overwhelmed, but we can hone our skills and work toward better things and keep making steps to have the capacity to make the change we want to see in the world.
Next, Apurva asks a question about how we keep relationships with people and finding consensus across our communities despite differences.

adrienne replies, "Even if we think everyone in the same system or group can come to a consensus, we need to understand that is about balancing our differences," recognizing that different people have different needs and we need to be able to see and hear each other and find the best option to meet those shared goals. Not just for low hanging fruit but for the real issues that we care about together.
