Carlos Collazo on why he still uses em dashes despite the symbol being associated with AI output.

If an em dash is the only thing preventing someone from thinking your writing has been spit out of Chat GPT I think you have bigger problems.

@amoroso In my business, I have a comprehensive technique to identify AI writing. I take a comprehensive look at the text and comprehensively search for overuse of the word comprehensive. This comprehensive method routinely finds AI-generated slop.

@amoroso My writing can be distinguished from that of a chatbot by my getting to the point a lot faster and more concisely. Also, the profuse expletives and open rage are a clue.

@melindrea And besides, the same could be said of emojis but people still use them.

@amoroso Yeah, the amount of posts automod (on discord) that has gotten blocked because "spam content" which a) we *know* were made by people and not intended to be spam and b) only thing we could figure out made it "suspected spam" was the emoji ...

There *are* some tell-tale signs ... but a single one of them isn't enough. You can't go "there's em-dashes!" or "there's emoji!". But the more "signs" ... well, the likelier it is >.>
