I got tired of white walls so we have murals going up giving basic info for atoms on the periodic table. It's a good brain break for students who are tired of dimensional analysis and quantitative work.

A white cinder block wall with three small murals about chemical elements in progress. One is bright yellow. Another has Egyptian imagery showing that gold has been used for thousands of years.

A white cinder block wall with five small murals in progress. An aluminum can shows aluminum's use. A banana split is in progress for potassium. A bright orange block features a stock figure holding a fountain pen because nibs often include ruthenium.

I gave students the choice of a mural vs a poster. I was surprised at how many went for the painting option. Most are taking it seriously, some not so much. Theirs can always be primed back over for future classes 🙂
