School attendance is the strangest thing.
Since it's used as one of the criteria on which schools & head teachers are "rated", you get things like this happening:
My daughter was pulled out of class to be brought alone to the head's office. There, she was told that when she feels poorly she can come to school and be ill there.
I guess the head teacher figured that my daughter, as a child, might be more bullyable than me as her grown up mother.
But they hadn't reckoned on my daughter.
Who replied, maintaining a completely expressionless face: "I'd be worried that if I came to school sick I'd pass it onto others."

But there was a cost.
She told me she'd felt like crying while staying expressionless. And said afterwards, she was shaking with rage and emotion. She later cried with her friends... all natural emotions, I think, compatible with someone using power over on you, knowing they'll get away with it because you have no recourse.
How many children and families are we doing stuff like this to, just in the name of a few figures?
