Folks, if, at this point in 2025, if you're not using Signal for as much of your communication with people in your circles as possible, you're making a mistake. This goes for Apple folk that trust Apple and Messages. Just stop. Stop assuming Apple will keep you safe in the future.

Switch to Signal and let folks in your life know that's the only option. Don't be gentle. Help everyone make the move by being stubborn about it. It takes 5 minutes to set-up.

@dennyhenke The problem I’m having with getting my family and friends in this same direction is inertia. ‘Why change from what I’m doing,’ their lack of attention and change seems to say, ‘when my long-used methods are still working?’

That explains zero following me when I left Twitter and Facebook.

It explains zero following me leaving Gmail.

It explains only a handful — and I think those already long-time users of it, although only as a backup option, when their factory-made phone apps still work just fine as default methods — when I encourage them to use Signal.

And the You Can Lead A Horse To Water… phenomenon is made worse still when their collective inaction literally undoes what I’m trying to accomplish. I can be with the most digitally secure and private email service on the planet, or by text using Signal, but when I’m still contacting them on their steadfast Gmail or Whatsapp accounts, that’s all undone anyway.

Frustrating.

@reay Yeah, I hear ya. I've just taken the approach of letting them know I'm quitting and I explain the details. If they're local I let offer to help them set it up. Then I make sure they have my email and phone number and that I have theirs. Then I quit. Maybe I'm a cold bastard but I'm making a choice based on safety. If they're willing to be unsafe, that's their business but I won't enable it and I won't put myself in jeopardy.

Then it's done and done!
