TIL Krakatoa eruption was the loudest sound in human history #TheMoreYouKnow
@farah Except for that sound I made stepping on Lego barefoot when trying to walk to bed quietly in the dark at 3am
@farah You’re doing it wrong. You’re supposed to start with “And they say,” and then “ the Krakatoa eruption was the loudest sound in human history.“ smugly after you fart.
What? Is that just me?
@Mrfunkedude Heh
Not my department but I’ll ask the guy 😅
@farah I wonder how they worked that out, given that sound meters are quite a recent invention?
@anne_twain I think they measured distance and used seismograph. They say it was heard from 3000-4000 miles away and the wave generated from the quake/eruption traveled the earth 3.5 times
@farah Hmmm, but who measured sound through the entire history of humankind? Without those records, how do we know Krakatoa was the loudest?
@anne_twain @farah how far away a loud sound is heard is a good stand-in. They didn't have decibel meters, but they did still have Earth's atmosphere and people tend to record when there's some loud thunder with no clouds in the sky.
@amiserabilist Ok you’re forgiven because first class gif usage
@Kierkegaanks Thanks for imagery
