As part of my #FediCollective series, I’m planning board and card game events to bring people together IRL now until Spring 2026. Think: soft vibes, cozy tables, and community-led joy.

Let’s connect if you vibe with haunted games, grief-informed joy, or tech that feels like a hug.

@Crissy it's okay. I read your nice long post. Amazing isn't it? How you are allowed to write so many characters but the moderators of Mastodon server limit my posts to way less characters. Censorship everywhere you go nowadays.

@duckyf33t on a desktop or laptop, the character limit is 1024. Though i've seen other posts that are longer and IDK how they have it!

I know on mobile devices, we are limited to 500 characters

@Crissy @duckyf33t Hmm… your posts randomly showed up and I think it a clarification is warranted.

1. The standard character limit for the Mastodon® software is 500.
2. Other software, like WriteFreely, Lemmy, mbin, Misskey, Friendica, have a different default number of characters.
3. Other instances also running the Mastodon software, or a fork of Mastodon, have a different number of maximum characters.
4. Some mobile clients lack the feature to detect the correct number of charracters allowed by an instance.

It has nothing to do with censorship, or moderators placing a character limit on your account. At least I haven't seen such a moderation feature (and I've seen moderation features of some of the software I've mentioned above).

There is no conspiracy or anything. The character limit is highly dependent on the instance you are on, and the mobile app you are using. The de facto standard is 500.

I hope this dispels the confusion.

@youronlyone thanks, alam ko walang conspiracy. actually yung nga ang naiisip ko na maybe hindi nya alam yung limit sa pag-post

BTW si ducky ang nagsabi na may limit and ang reason nya ay konspiracy.

kaya ko sinabi i was on laptop coz alam ko nga 1024 characters. Napansin ko 500 lang pag mobile.

hindi ko sya kailangang kumbinsihin pero thanks so post mo :)

@Crissy glad Im not the only one realizing it. Either they know a hack or moderators allow some special privileges
