An entire historic building was destroyed by the fascist invader.
But this is not a historic building in Ukraine.
This is The White House in Washington DC.
Should be an older before photo.
This before is new enough that the 'Rose Garden' has already been paved over.
@randahl
Where is Obamas portrait?
What happens to the hardened presidential bunker?
What it Trunt actually building?
@randahl Enjoy this parody of the orange fascist

@randahl It's not the first time. The British burned the White House in 1814, along with much of the rest of Washington, in retaliation for us burning York (now Toronto). Fair enough. The present White House is really just the shell of the older one, with completely different innards from after that war.
Ours is a comparatively young country, and this is not an ancient edifice. The original was completed 1800, the replacement 1817. It's been redone and modified several times.

@randahl
Putin took out a third of the people’s house without firing a missile…
Just think how grand the new Epstein Ballroom will be.
@randahl
What do you mean the Epstein files were in there? Oh that's unfortunate, we'll never know what they contained now...
Imagine if it wasn't Trump doing it. If anyone else illegally demolished one third of the white house with the sole purpose of distracting the public from other evils and / or for instilling fear it'd be the greatest act of terrorism in our nation in the last 24 years.
Our full military would be activated and we'd lay waste to other countries in a blind rage looking for the perpetrators.
@randahl @briankrebs what's fun is that I'm sure Trump wasn't going to wait for clearances and stuff so who know what kind of spying devices the contractors are going to leave inside the White House....
@randahl Just let the next president tear it down and restore it to it's former state.. No monuments to tyrants!
@randahl Wow i had no idea he destroyed that much. Thats embarrassing
@randahl Trump is a Russian asset.
@alterelefant I do not think that is what is going on. If he was, he would not have imposed sanctions on Russia this week.
@randahl
If I remember correctly, Trump and the republicans demonstrated their openness to removing historic buildings and replacing them with more appropriate ones when removing Civil War statues.
@randahl I thought the government was shutdown
@randahl The things this freak will do to distract attention from the Epstein files.
@randahl from CNN, by way of a passenger plane apparently.

@randahl no image desc, boo you
@randahl I bet he didn't get planning permission.
So how will The Orange One get in his bunker now?
As I understand it, it was below that destroyed building.
@randahl
Just guessing, but could that wing, stated as useless, be the library?
@jlperuyero @randahl no it's the quarters of the First Lady
@randahl Oh look! You can see the rose garden! /S
@randahl - Stupid people Do Stupid things.
@randahl For sure there were no other large ball rooms in Washington, D.C. 😒
@randahl The walls would be easy to build back. The symbol and the values have long been eroded, molded, decaying, and now they collapse.
@randahl Oh come on! A man who didn't get the peace Nobel prize despite the low effort he made at least deserves a ballroom, hm? And it needs to be big, otherwise his disgusting ego wouldn't fit in.
@randahl Whether or not the art etc. was removed prior to demolition is still a question
Putin smiles widely.
@randahl remembering and thinking about my course Representation of power when I was a history student in the 90ties. All those 'grande' buildings put up mostly by powerhungry leaders through the ages. From the Pharaohs and Roman emporors, kings Constantine and Charlemagne to Ludwig of Bavaria, Hitler, Stalin and the current autocrats.
@Frieke72 another person here on Mastodon mentioned the Volkshalle, which Hitler wanted in Berlin.
@randahl building plan was called Germania. There's a Große Halle (big hall). It also contained a massive .... Arch.
Look up pictures and see the similarities with the maquette of it and trumps' 🫣 Megalomania is of all times.
@randahl Remember when the fascist invader did this to White House in 1950?
@randahl So many balls. So little time.
@randahl he did what the bad guys couldn't do..
@randahl Part of me has to agree with Trump that the White House needs a bigger congress room for receiving (international) guests. Right now they use tents in the garden. That doesn't work in winter and has safety issues.
But it should be possible to build this with respect to the remaining building and not this ugly addon Trump has come up with...
@randahl
Where.
Is.
The.
Revolt???
Don’t call Trump an invader. He won the election. We Americans need to face that.
@randahl Also removed mature trees and the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
@randahl Trump: succeeding where Bin Laden failed.
@randahl
That's so shocking and horrendous. Don't even have words for that. And I am not even a US citizen.
Was talking to my wife about this yesterday. And we wondered what would happen if a German chancellor just decides to knock a good part of the Reichstag or the Kanzleramt down.
That would cause an absolute outrage and I can very much imagine that that chancellor would get kicked out right away.
@ruedi the same for Denmark. People would chain themselves to the excavators to prevent this.
@randahl
Yeah, totally.
Apart from the fact that the German chancellor and probably also the Danish prime minister can't just hire a demolition company to knock down government buildings.
Any company resp. CEO taking on that kind of job would be get the crap sued out of them.
Unbelievable. But yet... here we are.
@randahl I completely missed this. Is it legal for a president to destroy half of the White House? I mean, I know he doesn't give a shit about legality anymore but I'm still wondering. Destroying history for a ballroom... I don't even...
@rootsandcalluses no. Washington DC has all kinds of regulations on historic buildings, I have read.
Also, appropriating money for projects is the responsibility of The House.
I suspect there will be a legal aftermath of this move.
Trump does not play by the rules… he does not plan to leave. He has indicated that multiple times. This is new territory…
His only interest is his megalomaniac ego, nothing else. Not the USA, not the people, not the world economy. Only his ego… a true modern Nero.
Apparently this is being paid for by donations.
@randahl @rootsandcalluses
i doubt it … it will be just another case of „how they get away with murder“ (in this case the teardown of a building)
@randahl Den Rest bekommt er auch noch kaputt.
