"Moderate" Dems led by Schumer's strategy literally see that as career ending. Schumer bet on convincing Republicans to switch parties based on a "moderate big tent".
That means anything pulling to the left means the moderate pie gets smaller, mostly because that is the only strategic hammer in their tool chest. Schumer has no fallback plan, no pivot, no other goals other than betting Rs that are OK on abortion and gun control.
Wonder if it's due to the electoral success of Bill Clinton and Tony Blair in the 1990s? They won elections by trying to stay in the middle politicially. This was easier back then as the gap between left and right mainstream parties was much smaller.
One could imagine this made an impression on the current generation of political leaders such as Schumer in the US and Starmer in the UK?
The problem is that it's not the 1990s, triangulating between the centre-left and fascism doesn't work at all. Fascists will just vote for fascists, and centre-left or left won't vote for those adjacent to fascists.

@rysiek are social people who aim for politics of fairness and human rights as well as prosperity and fair share for all ( #taxtherich) still a red flag in USA? After such an outrageous, destructive and hopelessly egoistical, greedy criminal in the White House, one would think you do need a very social, woke & fair acting person next. Just to repair all that damage done already by wannabeking Trump.

@rysiek This hate came from hateful people. I am sure, with the right people in the limelights and on top of politics and economy and culture, this can be undone. It'll take time. And a lot of smarts and dedicated people. But it can be done! 
@energisch_ oh no doubt. This hate was manufactured. But it took hold, and now it is extremely difficult to undo. Because it requires the people who got hooked up on it to help dismantle it.
