FASPs are a new protocol by which Fediverse servers can delegate some of their functionality to other services. Sounds very geeky?

Here's @floppy showing what this looks like in practice, in his #FediForum demo of search for 3D model sharing app Manyfold.

@fediforum Very interesting to contrast the different approaches to decentralization between Bluesky/ATProto and the fediverse.

Bluesky started off with multiple (theoretically) decentralized services some of which are harder to host yourself, but are still *crucial*.

In the fediverse, we started with monolithic servers that handle everything (and yet you can run these for as low as $6/month), and now we're looking into adding *optional* centralized components that help spread the workload and share costs.

I quite like our approach!
