I got a scythe and I’m learning how to use it. There is an area on my property that is too wet to mow all winter and most of spring but then the grass is too long for the mower or even a line trimmer.
Mostly I’m left handed but somewhat ambidextrous, particular batting or golfing, so I can use this right handed scythe until I can somehow get my great grandfather’s scythe over from the US (it is well over 100 years old and in nearly perfect condition).
Secret I’ve found is to use my left hand to make the scythe rotate around the handle for the right hand as I twist my body as well. Otherwise pushing too much with only the right hand and doesn’t cut the grass well. Getting better and better plus ending up with nice bunches of grass that you can simply pick up and stack. I’ll need to make hay mounds for my own Monet image.
