Google thinks redesigning the Home app and going all in on AI is going to restore peoples' faith in Nest and Google Home. lol, buddy, you took the best performing home ecosystem and have been running it so deep into the ground that nobody trusts you; a fresh coat of AI-poisoned paint is not reassuring *anyone.*

I'm over here ripping out Google devices and slowly buying Home Assistant speakers to replace them because after 15 years in this ecosystem, I'm out.

@cassidy I've been progressively cutting Google services in favor of alternatives across the last year, but the push for Gemini over the last several months has only resulted in me speeding up the process. I'm anticipating being able to delete my Google account (two decades old) by the end of this year.

@cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family home assistant speakers? Going with the Voice-PE or something more shiny?

@cassidy Yup, I'm done. No more google home speakers. Will be buying a simple decent sounding Bluetooth speaker.

@cassidy Which Home Assistant speakers are those? I need to bulk up my setup quite a bit.

@zak I have a Home Assistant Voice Preview and am following their development closely. Right now it can replace Nest speakers for a bunch of voice commands, but I'm trying to figure out the best setup for casting. The built in speaker is mediocre (fine for voice responses, but very small/hollow), but it has a 3.5mm aux jack for whatever speakers you want. I might do a combination of Voice Preview for the mics and then some other networked speakers for casting; idk yet!

@cassidy This is almost exactly what I've been looking into. Granted, the major difference is that I'm not super interested in the voice aspect. But getting some super nice speakers and linking them up to something that can handle casting will be awesome. Or at the very least, something that I can properly integrate with my Jellyfin music library.

Home Assistant is a bit overwhelming in this regard (mostly in a good way).
