New, small, developing leaves on a thin, young branch growing from a gnarled trunk. The sunlight gives them a bright green color and reveals their veins. The background bokeh is dark green with touches of dark blue.

Pond's surface reflecting both the blue of the sky in the upper third of the photo and the green of the shoreline vegetation in the lower third. Thanks to the small undulations of the surface, the transition from blue to green reflections is made gradually by a subtle blending of the two colors in the central band. A great crested grebe swims in the all-green lower band, leaving an unexpected and wonderful blue trail in its wake.
