I'm getting closer to yielding to the numerous pressures to own a smart phone. I know phones in general are shit for digital sovereignty, but maybe there are some less gross ones? Does anyone have opinions about this?

Also if I were to shop for a smart phone, I'm interested to hear any perspectives on whether there are considerations of possible competition between prioritizing digital sovereignty (which I think phones are generally bad at, with maybe a few outliers) and prioritizing strong privacy protections (which I suspect the more mainstream phones might handle more robustly)?
Talk to me like I'm someone from 2003 who has never seen a smart phone before, because that's essentially what I am.
