Ah. My old nemesis:

access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

None of the guides on how to fix this are EVER up-to-date. #mysql #ubuntu

@garius is this after an upgrade to MariaDB? Because I did a dist upgrade to Debian recently that included an upgrade to MariaDB from 10.11 to 11.8 and might have a suitable fix.

My fix does involve using Unix socket authentication for the root user though.
