And dude didn't even make it to North America! Not to the US. Not to Canada.
Columbus did all his Columbasing in South America and the Caribbean.

@mekkaokereke It’s so wild to honor a dude who only succeeded by screwing up in a way that was convenient, and who was loathed by his contemporaries.
If other explorers of the time were told he’s the one that gets a big holiday, they’d be like, “THAT asshole?”
@mekkaokereke And he was Wrong! He discovered the winds that would carry him through the Atlantic, but he misjudged the distance. People rejected his ideas not because they believed the Earth was flat, but because they knew China was much further away.
